Verstappen to start first at Spa-Francorchamps

Sports Desk, Aug 28 (EFE).- Dutchman Max Verstappen will head Sunday at the Belgian Grand Prix, the twelfth of the Formula One World Championship, after dominating the rainy and crazy qualifications at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

Verstappen signed his ninth pole position in F1, the sixth of the season, by covering the 7,004 meters of the wet track of the Ardennes in one minute, 59 seconds and 765 thousandths, 321 less than the surprising English George Russell who will start next to him from the front row after achieving the best result of his career in F1 qualifications.

The third and final round was interrupted for more than half an hour to wait for the rain to subside and remove McLaren of English Lando Norris from the track.

Norris had set the best times in the first two quarters. The young talent from Bristol crashed just after the start of the round at the exit of Eau Rouge and, despite seriously damaging his car, didn’t get severely injured.

The English seven-time world champion and world leader Lewis Hamilton and Australian Daniel Ricciardo will start in second row. EFE
