Zelenskyy thanks Spain for military, humanitarian support

Lviv, Ukraine, Nov 2 (EFE).- Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday thanked Spanish foreign minister José Manuel Albares for his country’s support in taking in Ukrainian refugees and delivering much-needed military and humanitarian aid.

The Ukrainian leader met with Albares on Wednesday in Kyiv, with Spanish diplomatic sources reporting that Zelenskyy also asked for Spain’s support for the reconstruction of the war-torn country and urged the Spanish government to take the initiative in that regard.

Zelenskyy was especially grateful for the donation of 30 ambulances with material for consultations and emergency treatment for pregnant women and childbirth, as well as the delivery of 14 generators to ease energy supply shortages caused by Russian attacks on critical civilian infrastructure.

The Spanish government announced last month that it would provide Ukraine with four HAWK missile launchers to improve its air defenses against Russian forces.

Zelenskyy and Albares also discussed issues related to the joint bid by Spain, Portugal and Ukraine to host the World Cup in 2030.

During his official visit, Spain’s top diplomat also met with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba and prime minister Denyus Shmyhal.

In addition to paying tribute to the fallen during the war, Albares visited areas bombed by Russia both in Kyiv and in the town of Makariv, located 50 kilometers from the capital, and guaranteed that Spain would contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine “to recover its infrastructure, culture and heritage”.
