Rubiales’ mother hospitalized after hunger strike. UEFA calls sons actions inappropriate

Motril (Granada), Aug. 30 (EFE) – Ángeles Béjar, the mother of Luis Rubiales, suspended president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation and vice-president of UEFA, was admitted to the emergency room of the Santa Ana de Motril hospital on Wednesday after three days of hunger strike.

Bejar began the strike on Monday in support of his son, who she says is the victim of a “witch hunt”.

Rubiales’ mother is currently under observation in the hospital’s emergency room, and it is unknown if she will be hospitalized overnight.

She arrived after 6:30 p.m. with symptoms possibly caused by the chronic kidney disease she suffers from, which may have been aggravated by the three days she spent locked up and on hunger strike in the Divina Pastora church in Motril.

Bejar had severe physical discomfort, vomiting, dizziness, anxiety, as well as significant swelling in her legs, which could have been caused by fluid retention,

Ángeles Béjar had originally planned to appear before the media on Wednesday afternoon when she fell ill.

The local priest appeared instead to explain that she would not be able to attend “due to a crisis caused by the chronic illness she suffers.

UEFA CONDEMNS RUBIALES’ BEHAVIOUR

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, UEFA president Alexander Ceferin said of Luis Rubiales’ behavior: “Of course what he did was inappropriate. We all know that. I hope he knows it was inappropriate.”

Ceferin pointed out in an interview with L’Equipe: “I just have to say that I am sad that such an event overshadows the victory of the Spanish national team.

“We should change things. I had a meeting today with Laura McAllister (UEFA vice-president) to find ways to change our behaviour. We need to do more,” he added. EFE
