Sainz earns his maiden F1 pole position in British GP

Sports Desk, Jul 2 (EFE).- Carlos Sainz on Saturday claimed his maiden Formula One career pole position at the Silverstone circuit ahead of the British Grand Prix.

In his best effort on a rainy day, the Spaniard posted a time of one minute and 40.983s.

“It was a good lap, I was struggling a lot with the standing water. Pole came as a bit of a surprise. The pace has been there all weekend,” the Ferrari driver told F1 media.

Overall leader Max Verstappen (Red Bull) came second 0.072 seconds off the pace, ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez respectively.

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) was fifth ahead of Lando Norris (McLaren), Fernando Alonso (Alpine), George Russell (Mercedes), Zhou Guanyu (Alfa Romeo) and Nicholas Latifi (Williams). EFE
