Playhouse on the Square Presents “Peter Pan” with New Technology

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — Como parte de su tradición navideña, el Teatro Playhouse on the Square se encuentra presentando nuevamente la obra de “Peter Pan”. Siguiendo la historia original, pero con lo moderno de la tecnología de hoy, la obra tendrá funciones los días viernes, sábado y domingo hasta el 29 de diciembre, a las 2 PM.

La historia en sí cuenta las aventuras de los pequeños Michael, John y Wendy Darling, cuyas vidas cambian tras recibir la visita de Peter Pan, quien los lleva al mundo mágico de Neverland. Ellos conocen a los niños perdidos, la bella hada Tinkerbell, la hermosa princesa Tiger Lily y al malvado Capitán Hook. Además, el conflicto entre Peter Pan y el Capitán Hook hace que la aventura mágica se vuelva peligrosa, pero al final, la historia enseña a todos el verdadero poder de la amistad.

“‘Peter Pan” es una hermosa historia clásica sobre Wendy que está llegando a la edad adulta y gracias a Peter Pan está viviendo la última etapa de su niñez”, dijo Brooke Papritz en una entrevista con La Prensa Latina. “Me encanta poder contar esta historia todos los años”.

Papritz es miembro residente de Playhouse on the Square y ha estado interpretando a “Peter Pan” -junto con Caroline Simpson- desde que obtuvo el papel la primera vez que audicionó para él. Ésta es su quinta temporada interpretando dicho papel.

“Me encanta interpretar a Peter Pan. Hay algo muy liberador en este personaje, tal vez porque él es de espíritu libre. También es un papel muy físico, pero realmente divertido; me encanta asumir todos los atributos de actuar como un niño pequeño. Para una mujer es muy divertido hacer algo que es muy diferente no sólo mentalmente sino físicamente”, afirmó la actriz.

En cuanto a los equipos de producción y diseño de Playhouse on the Square, estos no sólo buscan rendirle un homenaje al cuento original, sino que también planean incorporar nuevas técnicas. Según el gerente de producción y director técnico, Phillip Hughen, él y su equipo querían “tener un set que fuera más fácil de usar y recuperar algo de la magia que se había desvanecido en un set de 8 años”. Con un set completamente renovado este año, el público tendrá la oportunidad de ver a Peter Pan y sus amigos volando más que antes.

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — As part of its Christmas tradition, the Playhouse on the Square is presenting “Peter Pan.” Following the original story, but with today’s modern technology, the show will have performances every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until December 29, at 2 PM.

The story itself tells the adventures of little Michael, John and Wendy Darling, whose lives change after Peter Pan visits their nursery window offering to take them to the magical world of Neverland. They meet the Lost Boys, the spritely fairy Tinkerbell, the beautiful princess Tiger Lily, and the evil Captain Hook. In addition to this, the conflict between Peter and Hook takes center stage as the magical adventure turns dangerous and teaches everyone the true power of friendship.

“‘Peter Pan’ is a beautiful classical story about Wendy who is coming into adulthood and thanks to Peter Pan she is having her last moment as a child,” said Brooke Papritz in an interview with La Prensa Latina. “I love getting to tell it every year.”

Papritz is a Playhouse on the Square Resident Company Member and has been playing “Peter Pan” – along with Caroline Simpson – since she got the role when she first auditioned for it. This is actually her fifth season.

“I love playing Peter Pan. There is something very liberating about playing this character; he is just so free spirited. It is also a very physical role, which is really fun; I love kind of taking on all the attributes of playing like a small boy. For a female actress it is very fun to kind of get to do something that is very different not only mentally but also physically,” the actress stated.

As for the Playhouse on the Square production and design teams, not only do they look to salute the show and its original design but also plan to incorporate new technologies, addressing year-old concerns. According to Production Manager and Technical Director, Phillip Hughen, he and his team wanted to “have a set that was easier to use and to bring back some of the magic that had faded on an 8-year-old set.” With this year’s new design, audiences should expect to see more flying from Peter Pan and his friends.
