44 civilian bodies found in rubble of Izyum building hit by Russian bombing

Kyiv, May 10 (EFE).- Ukrainian authorities discovered the bodies of 44 civilians under the rubble of a destroyed five-storey building in the northeastern city of Izyum, which was temporarily occupied by invading Russian forces, regional military officials said Tuesday.

Oleh Synehubov, the head of the regional military administration in Kharkiv Oblast, said the building was bombed by Russian forces at the beginning of March, shortly after Russian leader Vladimir Putin launched his invasion.

“This is another horrible war crime of the occupiers against the civilian population! We record each one, and they will pay for each one,” he said, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

The city of Kharkiv and its outlying region, which borders Russia, came under heavy Russian bombardment at the start of the invasion although Ukrainian forces have since regained ground in some areas. EFE
