At least two dead after gas explosion in northeast China

Beijing, Jan 25 (efe-epa).- At least two people died and eight were injured Monday after the explosion of a natural gas pipeline near a community of neighbors in the port city of Dalian, northeast China, according to media reports.

Another person – previously reported missing – was sent to hospital, according to The Paper newspaper.

The explosion occurred Monday morning at about 6am local time (22.00 GMT Sunday) near a residential community in the Jinzhou district of Dalian, Liaoning province, state agency Xinhua reported.

Images from Chinese network CCTV show buildings and cars completely charred after the explosion, as well as the arrival of firefighters.

The Paper added that there were two explosions caused by a leak at the Tiancheng Gas Company and that several vehicles and a repair shop caught fire as a result.

Eight people were rushed to hospital with cuts caused by glass from windows that shattered after the explosion. EFE-EPA
