Hundreds of ultra-Orthodox demonstrate in Israel against autopsy of boy

Jerusalem, Aug 15 (EFE).- Hundreds of ultra-Orthodox men took to the streets Monday to protest against an Israeli court’s decision to conduct an autopsy on a four-year-old boy.

A judge had ordered the autopsy on the boy, who died on Sunday in Jerusalem, after suspicions he had been killed and hung by his uncle, according to local media.

Following an appeal by the family and the protests, the Supreme Court reversed the court’s decision and accepted the boy be buried without conducting an autopsy.

Jewish religion generally forbids autopsies as they are seen as a violation and desacralisation of the body after death.

At least five people were arrested in the protests in which the demonstrators threw stones at police and burned containers.

The uncle of the boy remains in custody, local media reported. EFE
