Seoul detects possible multiple rocket test-launch in North Korea

Seoul, Jun 12 (EFE).- A series of missiles were apparently fired from a North Korea multiple rocket launcher, South Korea’s military reported on Sunday.

North Korea’s latest missile test was carried out between 8:07 and 11:03 local time on Sunday, according to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff.

“While bolstering our military’s surveillance and vigilance, South Korea and the United States are working closely and maintaining a thorough readiness posture,” the JCS said.

The test comes a week after Pyongyang fired eight apparent short-range ballistic missiles for a record 18th test of this kind in 2022.

North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un on Friday called for his country’s “national defense capability” to be boosted in the face of further “aggravation” on the Korean peninsula at the close of a key party meeting.

Tensions have been simmering on the peninsula amid Pyongyang’s repeated tests that have included intercontinental ballistic missiles. In response, Seoul and Washington have adopted a strategy of “extended deterrence.”

The US and South Korea have been warning for weeks against an imminent North Korean nuclear test, which would be the first since 2017. EFE
