Stolen: $11,000 in Artifacts Taken from Mud Island Museum

Roban artefactos del museo de Mud Island valuados en $11.000

MEMPHIS, TN (The Daily Memphian) — Since October, Memphis Police have been investigating the theft of about $11,000 worth of artifacts from the Mud Island River Museum.

“There is nothing as frustrating for those of us who manage public places as dealing with vandalism of the public’s property,” George Abbott, director of the Memphis River Parks Partnership, said when contacted Monday, Jan. 4, by The Daily Memphian about rumors of the break-in.

The museum has been closed to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic while the Mud Island River Park has been open to visitors.

Abbott said the artifacts taken in the break-in are insured but declined to be more specific about what was taken or details of the theft.

“We have been working with Memphis Police Department on its ongoing investigation, and we look forward to a resolution of this case,” Abbott said in an emailed statement.
