Parisian faith challenges City’s advantage in CL semis

London/Paris, May 3 (EFE).- Manchester City will host Paris Saint-Germain with their eyes set on adding to their 2-1 advantage to secure their first-ever Champions League final.

To have a shot at the coveted title, Pep Guardiola will have to showcase the defensive virtue that saw City not concede a goal in over 700 minutes of playtime in Europe until the quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund in April.

Although Guardiola has two Champions League trophies under his belt, both with Barcelona in 2008/9 and 2010/11, it remains an elusive piece of silverware for City, who have won almost everything else.

In 2019, the team were knocked out of Europe by a Tottenham Hotspur led by Mauricio Pochettino, who returns to the encounter tomorrow night at the helm of PSG.

“Nobody can control the chaos. I can’t predict what happens tomorrow. It’s different teams, different moments,” Guardiola said at a Monday presser ahead of the game.

“It’s the past, part of our memories, you have good moments, disappointing moments. We made an exceptional performance then, but couldn’t go through. Now we try to reach the final,” he added.

PSG, meanwhile, are still alive thanks to their first-leg goal.

They will have the entire squad available, except for Gueye who was sent off in the first leg, and Kylian Mbappe is in doubt due to a muscle issue that sidelined him during his team’s 2-1 win over Lens.

Mbappe is the team’s top scorer and although he is not proving decisive at the Parc des Princes, the club could use the magic he displayed at Barcelona and Munich to secure their second-ever final appearance, after losing their first to Bayern Munich last year. EFE
