China’s international trade grew 6% year-on-year in August

Beijing, Sep 7 (efe-epa).- China’s foreign trade increased by 6 percent year-on-year in August, according to data published most see the by the General Administration of Customs, reaching 2.88 trillion yuan (about $421,705 million.)

Official statistics show exports increased 11.6 percent year-on-year in this period, to 1.65 trillion yuan (about 241,606 million dollars or 204,140 million euros).

By contrast, imports fell 0.5% year-on-year in August, to 1.23 trillion yuan. Trade surplus was 416,590 million yuan in August.

During the month of July, Chinese international trade had increased by 6.5 percent year-on-year, to 2.93 trillion yuan.

The August data represents the third consecutive month of growth in China’s foreign trade denominated in yuan, since in the January-February two-month period, when the country was largely paralyzed by the crisis unleashed by the coronavirus, this indicator registered a contraction 9.6 percent year-on-year.

In March, the interannual decrease was 0.8 percent, due to -0.7 percent in April and -4.9 percent in May. June and July were the first growth months of the year, with increases of 5.1 percent and 6.5 percent, respectively.

The falls in the first five months of the year have caused Chinese international trade to decrease by 0.6 percent year-on-year. EFE-EPA
