Madrid, Jun 13 (EFE).- An emotional Marcelo bid farewell to Real Madrid Monday, bringing a 16 year chapter of his career to a close as the club’s most decorated player with 25 trophies under his belt.

“I want to thank the best club in the world for enabling me to enjoy this,” he said during a ceremony attended by Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, head coach Carlo Ancelotti and teammates including Dani Carvajal and Marco Asensio.

“I have woken up every day of my life with the joy of being in the best club in the world, making history and for my children to see that I was able to play in the best possible place,” he added.

The 34-year-old also showed gratitude to his wife Clarice Alves, seated in the front row with their two children.

“When I left Brazil I had in mind to play in a big team in Europe, I arrived at 18 to a wonderful adventure, I thought I could go high and I leave here being the player who has won the most titles in the history of the best club in the world,” he said.

“I go out with my head held high, my family is very proud of me. I am lucky, I have achieved everything with work, with talent and I have been lucky to have my people by my side,” he added. EFE
