Tennessee Lawmakers Pass CROWN Act Prohibiting Discrimination Against Natural Hair

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) — Tennessee state lawmakers passed the CROWN Act which would prohibit discrimination against natural hairstyles.

The CROWN Act would prevent employers from adopting policies against natural hairstyles such as braids, locs and twists.

Under the measure, an employee who is denied their right to wear their hair naturally could file a complaint to the Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

If signed into law, Tennessee would be the first state in the south to ban discrimination against natural hair.

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL/WMC) — Los legisladores del estado de Tennessee aprobaron la Ley CROWN que prohibiría la discriminación contra los peinados naturales.

La Ley CROWN evitaría que los empleadores adopten políticas contra los peinados naturales como trenzas, rastas y giros.

Según la medida, un empleado al que se le niegue el derecho a usar su cabello naturalmente podría presentar una queja ante el Departamento de Trabajo y Desarrollo Laboral.

Si se convierte en ley, Tennessee sería el primer estado del sur en prohibir la discriminación contra el cabello natural.
