Gomez goal against Paraguay takes Argentina into Copa America knockouts

Brasilia, Jun 21 (EFE).- Argentina on Monday picked up its second straight win after beating Paraguay 1-0 in their Copa America Group A match to end with seven points from three outings and secure a berth in the knockout stages.

With the win, Argentina moved to the top spot in Group A and left Paraguay in third place with three points from two matches.

Though Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria combined effectively yet again in the start of the game, it was Papu Gomez who snuck the ball past the Paraguayan keeper to give his team the lead from the 10th minute.

On Matchday 4 on Thursday, Bolivia will face Uruguay and Chile will play Paraguay while Argentina will rest. EFE
