Tesla’s Musk jokes: ‘I’m buying Manchester United’
Washington, Aug 17 (EFE).- Elon Musk surprised Twitter followers with a claim that he was going to buy English Premier League club Manchester United before clarifying that he was joking.
The business magnate, named by Forbes as the world’s richest man, tweeted late Tuesday: “Also, I’m buying Manchester United ur welcome.”
He later responded to a commenter asking whether he was serious: “No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams.
“Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid,” he added in a separate tweet.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO is known for unpredictable and sometimes controversial Twitter statements.
Musk, a South African-born United States citizen, is currently locked in a legal battle with Twitter linked to his bid to buy the social media site, which he later pulled out of.
Manchester United, owned by the US-based Glazer family, has got off to a historically bad start to the Premier League season and sit bottom of the table following losses to Brighton and Hove Albion and Brentford — the latter a 4-0 thrashing.
Many Man. U fans lay the blame for the club’s poor performance in recent years with the Glazer ownership.EFE
