Koeman ‘worried’ about Messi’s future at Barcelona

Barcelona, Jul 9 (EFE).- Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman said Friday that he is worried about captain Lionel Messi’s future at the club.

The Argentine superstar’s contract with the Catalans expired at the end of last month and he has yet to agree to a renewal, meaning he can leave and join another club for free.

“When everything is not OK, you should be worried,” the Dutch manager told reporters before the start of a charity golf tournament.

“But I have confidence that the president (Joan Laporta) will resolve the issue. It is important for the club and the league that the best player in the world stays.”

Koeman insisted he is confident in the work that Laporta is doing to make sure Messi stays: “Everyone handles their own tasks, but Laporta has told me to remain calm, that they are working on the issue. We are confident that he will be around for a few more years”.

Barcelona will begin its preseason on Monday, although many of their first team players will not join up, due to their participation in the latter stages of the Euro 2020 and Copa America international tournaments as well as the upcoming Olympic Games. EFE
