Police Ends Barricade Situation in Northeast Memphis

MEMPHIS, TN (MPD) — On September 19, 2023, at approximately 11:25 p.m., officers responded to an armed party call in the 6100 block of Ashton Road. When officers arrived, they made contact with a victim near the scene and were advised that when he came home, his roommate pointed a long gun at him. The victim immediately left the apartment. When officers knocked on the door of the suspect’s home, attempting to make contact with him, they heard gunshots inside the apartment. A second roommate was still inside when the shots were fired, but he was able to get outside and was brought to safety by officers.
The negotiators attempted to communicate with the suspect for several hours but were unsuccessful. After gas was deployed into the apartment, the suspect fired several more shots, injuring an officer. The officer was taken to Regional One in non-critical condition. After multiple failed attempts to get a response, a bi-lingual negotiator established communication with the armed suspect and negotiated a peaceful surrender. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
This is an ongoing investigation. No charges have been filed at this time. The suspect’s name will not be released at this time.
