G20 Environment meetings to discuss green transition bump-up in Naples

Naples, Italy, Jul 22 (EFE).- G20 ministers of environment and energy will meet Thursday and Friday in Naples, in southern Italy, to discuss strategies to hasten the ecological transition, reduce polluting emissions and encourage green investments.

The summit will be hosted by Italian Minister of Ecological Transition Roberto Cingolani, who has already met with United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry on Thursday morning.

“Italy and the US are united by another great ambition and commitments taken this decade to maintain the planet temperature at 1.5 degrees (Celsius),” said the ministry on social media.

On Thursday, ministers started arriving at 10am local time (8am UTC) in the Royal Palace of Naples, where the G20 talks dedicated to the environment will be held Thursday.

Meetings centered around climate and energy matters are scheduled for Friday.

Participants are expected to discuss how to drive an inclusive and sustainable post-pandemic recovery, promote the use of renewable energies and boost efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. EFE
