Kosgei, Teshome break Barcelona Marathon records

Barcelona, Nov 7 (EFE).- Samuel Kosgei and Tadu Teshome on Sunday broke Barcelona Marathon’s records on their way to win men’s and women’s competitions respectively.

Kenya’s long-distance runner ended the race in two hours, six minutes and three seconds, breaking the previous competition record posted in 2019 by Bahraini Alemu Bekele by one second.

Morocco’s Othmane El Goumri came in second, 27 seconds off the pace, while his countryman Mohamed Ziani completed the podium (2h.06:33).

Making her marathon debut, Ethiopia’s Tadu Teshome, 20, posted a time of two hours, 23 minutes and 53 seconds, shattering the course record set in 2019 by her countrywoman Kuftu Tahir, (2h.24.44).

Teshome led an all-Ethiopian podium, with Meseret Gola and Meseret Belete second and third respectively.

  A total of 15,100 runners, including 4,000 women, competed in the marathon, which was held after a one-year-and-a-half absence due to the coronavirus pandemic. EFE
