The world needs to act ‘now’, says Zelenskyy after beheading video
Kyiv, Apr 12 (EFE).- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday urged the international community for urgent and concrete measures to help defeat Russia, following the release of a video showing a supposed Russian soldier beheading a prisoner of war from Ukraine.
“No one will understand if the leaders don’t react. Action is required now,” Zelenski said in a video shot from the presidential office, adding that this was not an isolated case. “There is something that no one in the world can ignore: how easily these beasts kill.”
“This is a video of Russia trying to make just that the new norm,” said the president, according to Ukraine’s official agency Ukrinform.
A video found on Russian social networks by US broadcaster CNN allegedly showed the beheading of a Ukrainian soldier by a Russian military personnel.
The video is believed to have been recorded last summer, and the Ukrainian secret service has been trying to identify the person in it.
Zelenskyy added that such incidents have happened “thousands of times,” especially in Bucha, a locality near Kyiv where hundreds of civilians were killed during the Russian occupation.
“Everyone must react. Every leader,” he stressed, calling on for help from the international community to bring an end to what he described as “Russian terror.”
The decapitation video has also been posted by the adviser to the head of Office of the President of Ukraine, Mykhailo Podolyak, who decried Russia’s “blood thirst” and those calling for Kyiv to handover territories to Moscow to bring an end to the war. EFE
