Turkey, Kazakhstan push for enhanced cargo transport, military cooperation

Astana, Sep 11 (EFE).- Turkey and Kazakhstan plan to bolster the Trans-Caspian transport corridor, which links the two countries via Iran and bypasses Russian routes that face sanctions, and to ramp up their military cooperation, Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu said Monday.

“We’ve concluded that there’s a need to increase cargo transit by harnessing the full potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route,” Nurtleu said during a joint press conference with visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

Turkey’s top diplomat stressed that “the role of the Trans-Caspian corridor is growing ever more prominent.”

Both foreign ministers also agreed to boost military cooperation and collaboration in their military industries. “It’s an area of utmost significance for the security of both countries,” noted Nurtleu.

Nurtleu also announced that these topics would be discussed in more detail during the upcoming visit to Kazakhstan by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Erdogan’s visit is scheduled for November 3, coinciding with the tenth summit of the Organization of Turkic States. EFE
