Chinese women’s life expectancy exceeded 80 in 2020

Beijing, Dec 21 (EFE).- The life expectancy of Chinese women reached 80.88 years in 2020, according to data provided Tuesday by the National Statistical Office.

The agency analyzed the demographic development of women in the country in the last decade: between 2010 and 2015, the life expectancy of Chinese women increased from 77.37 years in 2010 to 79.43 in 2015.

The global life expectancy for women in 2019 stood at 75.05 years, according to the World Bank.

According to official data from 2019, the life expectancy of the Chinese population was 77.3 years.

Likewise, the office said the number of women employed in companies located in cities increased by 19.1 million (39.5 percent) between 2010 and 2020.

Women are 43.5 percent of all citizens with work in China, a figure that meets the official goal of representing at least 40 percent of the workforce, according to the report.

According to the national census presented in May, gathered every decade, China now has almost 1.4 billion people, although aging and low birth rate worry authorities.

In 2020, births fell for the fourth consecutive year, with 12 million compared to 14.65 million in 2019, while the fertility rate was 1.3 children per woman, below the 2.1 estimated by the United Nations to maintain a stable population. EFE
