Thousands evacuated in Philippines as heavy rains flood Manila

Manila, Jul 24 (EFE).- Thousands of people have been affected by floods across the urban area of Manila, as relentless monsoon rains hammered down on the city and surrounding provinces.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council issued an “Orange Rainfall Warning” for Metro Manila amid heavy rains and flooding.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that 14,023 people have been evacuated preemptively, according to state-run Philippine News Agency.

The water level of the overflown Marikina river decreased to 16.2 meters, while the power supply has been restored in six out of 10 municipalities that experienced electricity outages. EFE
