Almeria’s Toure tallies to deal unexpected 1-0 loss to Barcelona

Madrid, Feb 26 (EFE).- Almeria emerged from its clash with Barcelona on Sunday with a 1-0 win over the league leaders, and this unexpected result – after the La Liga title race had looked virtually over the day before with No. 2 Real Madrid’s 1-1 result against fourth-place Athletico Madrid – breathed a little new life into the title race.

Although the Catalan side handily dominated ball possession throughout the match, they were unable to find the twine and allowed Almeria to take home the win, and the net result is that Barca was denied the chance to open up a virtually insurmountable 10-point lead at the top of the table.

It was only the Barca powerhouse’s second loss so far this season.

El Bilal Toure was the scorer of the lone goal in minute 24 after a nice pass from Luis Suarez, sending the ball into the net with a fabulous shot.

Xavi Hernandez’s men tried everything in their playbook after the intermission to at least salvage a draw before the final whistle, but their efforts came to nought as they were only able to fire one shot on goal that Almeria netminder Fernando Martinez was able to save.

The lowly Almeria managed to drag itself up out of the relegation zone with its unexpected victory and Barca now has “only” a seven-point lead on the La Liga table as the Clasico against Real Madrid approaches on March 19 at Camp Nou.
