West Ham’s Fornals becomes Liverpool’s nightmare in 3-2 win

London, Nov 7 (EFE).- Spanish midfielder Pablo Fornals was instrumental in West Ham United’s 3-2 win over Liverpool on Sunday, forcing an own-goal by goaltender Alisson Becker and then tallying himself in the second half at London’s Olympic stadium.

Fornals was the key figure in the match, shining right from the start, although the first tally came with Aaron Cresswell firing a shot on goal in the 4th minute that Alisson touched, sending the ball right into the Liverpool net.

Although a VAR review of the play was made due to a possible handball by Angelo Ogbonna, nothing was discovered and West Ham went out ahead of the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp’s men fought back, however, evening things up in the 41st minute when Trent Alexander-Arnold got one into Lukasz Fabianski’s net.

Jarrod Bowen drove into the Liverpool defenders in the 67th minute and then neatly shifted the ball to Fornals, who found the twine for the 2-1.

Bowen put a corner throw against the post and Kurt Zouma showed up alone to knock a header into the net for the 3-1 in the 74th minute.

Divock Origi made his play 10 minutes from time with a shot from medium range that hit for the 3-2, and Sadio Mane got a really nice chance in stoppage time to tie things up but wound up with no cigar, unable to head Alexander-Arnold’s free kick into the net.

With the stunning win, West Ham kept Liverpool from getting to its 26th unbeaten match – which would have been a club record – and knocked Klopp’s team out of the No. 3 spot in the Premier League table.

Liverpool, with 22 points, is now four in back of league leader Chelsea, while West Ham cemented its Champions hopes and climbed into third place with 23, enjoying the view from there with Manchester City.

Meanwhile, a goal from Emile Smith-Rowe sealed three points for Arsenal against Watford at the Emirates.

The Gunners thought they had taken an early lead thanks to Buyako Saka before the VAR ruled him offside. Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster kept his team in the game when he saved a penalty fired toward the bottom left corner by Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang,

The visitors went down to 10 men in the second half when Juraj Kucka picked up a second yellow for a bad tackle on Nuno Taveres in what was a scrappy, aggressive game.

And a Raphinha freekick was almost immediately canceled out by a wonder strike from Harvey Barnes as Leeds United and Leicester City split the points at Elland Road.

Over at Goodison Park, neither Everton nor Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur were able to drum up a goal.
