Tiffany reimagines iconic necklace with 80-carat diamond

Madrid, Jan 7 (efe-epa).- Tiffany has acquired an impressive 80-carat diamond to reimagine the historic necklace presented at the 1939 World’s Fair in New York.

Sources revealed Thursday that the diamond is the most expensive jewel that Tiffany has ever put up for sale.

The new necklace features a sizable stone, a flawless D-colour diamond — the highest grade –, responsibly sourced from Botswana, Africa.

The design, inspired by the 1939 style, will be exhibited to the public in 2022 when the doors of the iconic store on Fifth Avenue are reopened after two years of remodelling.

The great aquamarine and diamond forms in the original design of the necklace will be replaced and revived by the oval-cut diamond weighing 80-carats.

The necklace features the largest stone that Tiffany has put on sale in its 183 year history, which could only be surpassed by the legendary 128.54 carat Tiffany Diamond, which is not for sale.

“What better way to mark the opening of our transformed Tiffany flagship store in 2022 than to reimagine this incredible necklace from the 1939 World’s Fair, one of our most celebrated pieces when we opened our doors on 57th Street and Fifth Avenue for the first time,” Victoria Reynolds, Tiffany & Co. Chief Gemologist, said.

Reynolds added the necklace “perfectly reflects our brand heritage as a New York luxury jeweller” whose founder, Charles L. Tiffany, was nicknamed ‘The King of Diamonds.’

Tiffany, throughout its history, has acquired numerous exceptional precious stones for its jewellery designs, including the legendary Tiffany Diamond, one of the largest yellow diamonds in the world, as well as the Emerald Hooker and Mazarin diamonds, bought by Tiffany at an auction of the French Crown Jewels in 1887.
