Spain reaffirms Nato unity in face of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

Adazi, Latvia, Apr 28 (EFE).- Spain’s defense minister Margarita Robles on Thursday reiterated that Nato allies remaining united was the best way to win the war Russian president Vladimir Putin launched against Ukraine.

“We are not going to let him (Putin) get away with it,” Robles said during a visit to Adazi military base in Latvia.

Robles’ remarks came during an address to more than 500 Spanish soldiers, who are part of the multinational battalion battlegroup Nato deployed in the military camp, located 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) away from the capital Riga and 120 kilometers from the border with Russia.

Nato’s Enhanced Forward Presence mission aims to deter potential attacks against the Baltic countries.

“In such difficult times, let us tell the world that Spain is committed to peace, wants peace, and is not going to leave Ukraine and the Ukrainian citizens alone,” the minister stressed.

To address the situation, Robles held a meeting with the battlegroup chief, Col. Sandris Gaugers from Latvia, Canadian Lt. Col. John Richel, and the commander of the Spanish contingent, Lt. Col. Fernando Fuentesal Garcia.

Spain, Canada, and Latvia reaffirmed their commitment to the North Atlantic Alliance and unity in the face of Russia’s full-scale attack on Ukraine during the meeting.

Besides Spain, soldiers from Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Albania, Montenegro, and Canada are taking part in the mission that was reinforced in the wake of the invasion. EFE
