12 Killed as Russian missile hits apartment building in Ukraine

Lviv, Ukraine, Jan 14 (EFE).- Twelve people were killed by a Russian missile that struck an apartment building in the eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro on Saturday, media outlets said.

The military administration leader in the Dnipropetrovsk region, Valentyn Reznichenko, said in a Telegram post that at least 64 other people were injured, including a dozen children.

Authorities in Dnipro proclaimed three days of official mourning.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared a video on his official Facebook page showing the rescue efforts at the site of the attack.

“Eternal memory to all whose lives were taken by Russian terror! The world must stop this evil,” he said.

“”Debris clearance in Dnipro continues. All services are working. We are fighting for every person, every life.””

Officials said that as many as 26 residents of the nine-story building may be trapped beneath the rubble.

Russia on Saturday also launched strikes against infrastructure targets in the capital, Kyiv, as well as the cities of Kharkiv in the northeast and Lviv in the far west, authorities reported. EFE fp-int-egw/jt-dr
