Belarus president says military cooperation with China is not against third countries

Moscow, Aug 17 (EFE).- Belarus’ President Alexandr Lukashenko said Thursday that military cooperation between Minsk and Beijing is not directed against third countries, as he met with Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu.

“All our cooperation, which is very significant (we did not hide it from anyone), is by no means directed against third countries. We don’t need that. We need to protect our states and our peoples,” said Lukashenko, according to the state-owned BELTA agency.

Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly accused Belarus of providing its territory to the Russian military to attack Ukraine.

Lukashenko expressed confidence that China and Belarus were on the same page on the main ideas of the current and upcoming world order.

“We are absolute supporters of a multipolar world, territorial integrity and unity of the borders and territories formed after World War II. We stay committed to non-interference in the internal affairs of states,” he underlined.

On Wednesday, Li met with his Belarusian counterpart, Victor Khrenin, who expressed Minsk’s interest in expanding military and military-technical cooperation with China.

According to Jrenin, Li’s visit, which will continue until Saturday, will help boost friendship and understanding between the Belarusian Armed Forces and the People’s Liberation Army of China.

The Chinese Defense Minister arrived in Belarus from Moscow, where he attended an arms forum. EFE
