Tony Allen Faces Domestic Charges After Incident in Collierville

MEMPHIS, TN (The Daily Memphian) — Former Memphis Grizzlies star Tony Allen was arrested Sunday after a confrontation at his wife’s Collierville apartment, according to a Collierville police report.
Allen, 39, who gave a Germantown address, is charged with domestic assault, domestic vandalism and interference with emergency calls in connection with the incident at the residence of Desiree Allen, which occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
There was no immediate information on Tony Allen’s court date or if there was a bond posted for his release.
The arrest of Tony Allen is the latest problem for the former NBA player. He faces federal charges of conspiracy to commit health care and wire fraud in connection with a case in which he and a group of former NBA players are accused of attempting to defraud the league’s health care plan.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is free on a $500,000 personal recognizance bond in that case.
Desiree Allen also was indicted in the federal investigation.
In the alleged Collierville incident on Sunday, Desiree Allen, who said she moved into the suburban apartment about two weeks ago, said Tony Allen called her and accused her of keeping their children from him. He then went to the apartment and banged on the door, but she did not let him in. He left, but returned a short time later and broke open the door, damaging the frame, according to the police report.
Once inside, he confronted her about the matter in the master bedroom, and she threatened to call the police.
Tony Allen then took her phone and threw it in the toilet in the adjacent bathroom. Desiree also had what police described as a rug-burn type of injury on her left knee.
