Israel arrests 100 people at Nasser hospital in south Gaza

Jerusalem, Feb 17 (EFE).- Israel has arrested 100 people accused of “terrorist activity” at Nasser hospital in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, the army said Saturday.

The Hamas-run Gazan health ministry, meanwhile, said Israel had arrested a “large number of medical personnel.”

“Forces continue to operate against terrorist targets in the Khan Yunis area (…) This activity led to the arrest of about 100 terrorist suspects,” the IDF said on X.

Special forces were carrying out a “precise and limited operation”, which began on Thursday, against Hamas inside the medical complex, the military statement added.

The Gazan Ministry of Health said Saturday that “the Israeli occupation forces” had turned the hospital into “a military barracks”.

On Friday night, the health ministry said the Israeli army was detaining a large number of medical personnel, patients and displaced persons in the maternity ward, “subjecting them to interrogation and harsh and inhumane conditions”.

It also claimed that Israeli troops were preventing the arrival of a convoy of World Health Organization aid to Nasser hospital.

The Palestinian Minister of Health, Mai al-Kaila, said that medical staff, patients and displaced persons who have sought refuge at the hospital were “being subjected to a continuous crime of genocide by the Israeli occupation army, which seeks to destroy it and liquidate those who are in it through bombardments, displacement and arrests of medical personnel, cuts in medical services, electricity cuts, oxygen cuts and death of patients”.

Al-Kaila, quoted by the Palestinian news agency Wafa, added that the hospital is “the backbone of medical service delivery in the Gaza Strip” and stressed that “stopping its work spells disaster in every sense of the word.”

The army statement released Saturday also notes that soldiers have killed an unspecified number of alleged “terrorists” in the vicinity of the hospital, which was raided this week by Israeli troops after 25 days of siege. EFE
