Toronto Raptors level series at 3-3 with double OT victory over Celtics

Lake Buena Vista (Florida, USA), Sep 10 (efe-epa).- Defending NBA champions the Toronto Raptors avoided elimination on Wednesday evening and forced a game 7 in the Eastern Conference playoff semifinals with a win against the Boston Celtics.

In the Western Conference the Los Angeles Clippers moved one step close to their first-ever finals appearance by extending their series lead over the Denver Nuggets to 3-1.

The Raptors’ survival spirit came into play for the third time in this year’s postseason as they bagged a 125-122 victory against Boston in overtime to bring the series to 3-3.

The final, decisive game is set to take place on Friday.

OG Anunoby, the hero of game 3 with a buzzer-beating three-pointer, played the role of protagonist once again with another three-pointer to put Toronto ahead in double overtime with less than a minute on the clock.

Kyle Lowry stepped up to the plate, notching 33 points overall, with eight rebounds and six assists in his 53 minutes of gametime. Norman Powell put on a surprise performance with 23 points, including two free-throws with 5 seconds to play.

Fred VanVleet hit 21 points to become the Raptors’ third-top scorer of the day.

For the Celtics, Jaylen Brown led the way with a double-double of 31 points and 16 rebounds., while Jayson Tatum was inches away from a triple-triple with 31 points, 16 rebounds and nine assists.

Marcus Smart had a triple-double with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists but missed a three-pointer with three seconds to go in double overtime, while Daniel Theis bagged 18 points for the Celtics.

In the Western Conference, Kawhi Leonard – who led the Raptors to glory last season – shone once again for the Clippers, leading them to a 96-85 victory over the Denver Nuggets in the fourth game of the series.
