Tom Holland on acting, happiness and his end goal to avoid limelight

Madrid, Feb 8 (EFE).- With his Hollywood career skyrocketing to new levels of fame, Tom Holland told Efe in an interview Tuesday that he was soaking up the moment although he eventually planned to settle down and shrink from the public eye.

Holland swapped in his Spider-Man suit for some adventure clothing for his role as Nathan Drake in the movie Uncharted, based on the video game series of the same name and directed by Ruben Fleischer.

He joined Fleischer and co-star Antonio Banderas on a press tour that stopped in Madrid Tuesday, where he took time for a chat with Efe.

“I am really happy at the moment, (…) I am proud of my work,” the Englishman, 25, said.

“Keep being happy, keep working, eventually slow down and have a family and sort of disappear from the public eye would be the goal, but not yet,” the actor, who is currently dating American actress Zendaya, told Efe.

Best known for his role as Spider-Man, Holland said Uncharted was more than just an action-adventure movie.

“As much as it is about exploration and discovering new parts of the world, it is about a young orphan boy searching for his family and in turn he finds a family in Sully (Mark Wahlberg), so the theme of friendship and mistrust plays a huge part in this film and one that is a nice juxtaposition to the action.”

He also said that he would have liked to shoot more scenes with Banderas, who plays the villain Moncada in the movie.

“I am sad that I didn’t get that much time to work with him and I hope that one day in the future we can have more time.

“I am such a big fan of his, he is such an amazing actor and he is a legend in the business,” he said, referring to the Spanish actor.

It is not the first time Holland travels to Spain.

While shooting J.A. Bayona’s The Impossible, the story of a family on holiday in Thailand when the tsunami hit in 2004, he spent some time in Alicante.

“I am so grateful for the love and support I have found since the beginning here in Spain, from shooting in Alicante to coming to Madrid and Barcelona for our press tour, to share it with the Spanish people was so wonderful,” he says. EFE
