Eriksen joins Brentford to return to elite football after cardiac arrest

Madrid, Jan 31 (EFE).- Denmark’s Christian Eriksen, who collapsed at Euro 2020 after suffering a cardiac arrest, has joined Brentford, the Premier League club announced on Monday.

Eriksen signed a deal that ties him to the club, which is playing its maiden Premier League season, until the end of the current campaign after “completing a medical assessment,” Brentford said in a statement.

The 29-year-old began his career at Ajax, where he won three league titles, a Cup and a Super Cup, before excelling at Tottenham and Inter Milan, helping the latter win the Serie A last season.

He had taken part in 109 international games and scored 36 goals until suffering a heart attack during Denmark’s Euro 2020 clash against Finland at Copenhagen’s Parken stadium in June.

Since recovering from the health issue, Eriksen has been training with Ajax’s youth team.

Eriksen, who was recently administered the Covid-19 vaccine, will travel to West London in the coming days, the club said in a statement.

“I am looking forward to working with Christian again,” Brentford coach Thomas Frank said about the player whom he coached in the Danish U-17 national team.

“He hasn’t trained with a team for seven months but has done a lot of work on his own.

“He is fit but we will need to get him match fit and I am looking forward to seeing him work with the players and staff to get back towards his highest level,” he added. EFE
