Miami Desk, May 3 (efe-epa).- Here’s a roundup of stories around the world related to the novel coronavirus pandemic:

WHO: The World Health Organization on Sunday reported that 3.34 million confirmed coronavirus cases have been detected worldwide and 238,000 people have died.

BRAZIL: Brazil reported Sunday that 7,025 people have died from Covid-19 in the country, 275 of them in the past 24 hours, and 101,147 confirmed coronavirus cases have been detected nationwide, 4,588 more than on Saturday.

BRAZIL: The huge and iconic statue of Jesus Christ overlooking Rio de Janeiro on Sunday was wearing a protective facemask to remind the public that they need to be cautious about maintaining social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.

COLOMBIA: Colombia reported 7,668 confirmed Covid-19 cases on Sunday and 340 deaths, increases of 423 cases and 16 deaths within the past 24 hours.

EL SALVADOR: Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele on Sunday warned that the country’s healthcare system is on the way to “collapse” after 42 new cases of Covid-19 were reported, bringing the total confirmed cases to 490. Eleven people have died from the virus so far.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: An Air Europe flight departed Sunday from Santo Domingo en route to Madrid carrying 312 Spaniards who had been stranded without transportation in the Dominican Republic due to flight restrictions amid the Covid-19 pandemic but who are now being repatriated.

ECUADOR: Ecuador will begin easing quarantine restrictions on Monday as the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases stood at 29,538 on Sunday, with 1,312 people having died. According to official figures, 1,564 new cases were detected within the past 24 hours.

COSTA RICA: Costa Rica reported six new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours on Sunday, bringing the total confirmed cases to 739, with six of them proving fatal.

PERU: Two physicians died in Peru from Covid-19 on the weekend, bringing the total deaths from the virus to 1,287, along with 45,928 confirmed cases. The two physicians died in Iquitos, reportedly due to the lack of oxygen tanks to help them breathe, those supplies having been exhausted by the high demand from very ill patients.

BOLIVIA: Bolivia on Sunday registered a record daily number of new coronavirus cases – 241 – with 1,470 confirmed cases having been detected so far and 71 people having died.

CUBA: Cuban health authorities reported 38 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, 36 of them in Havana, with the nationwide total standing at 1,649 and 67 people having died.
