Trudeau calls for snap election on September 20

Toronto, Canada, Aug 15 (EFE).- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called Sunday a snap election on September 20, only two years after the previous election and in the midst of a fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Trudeau met with Governor General of Canada Mary Simon, who acts as the head of state and representative of the Queen of England, and he requested her to dissolve Parliament, which she approved.

In 2019, Trudeau’s Liberals could only secure a minority government, having taken 157 of 338 seats in the Lower House of Parliament.

The latest polls suggest that Trudeau will win the snap election, although experts have warned that the unpredictable evolution of the fourth wave of Covid-19 infections could flip the script. EFE
