Smoke, burning smell blown to Madrid from Portugal fire

Madrid, Aug 16 (EFE).- Spain’s capital Madrid on Tuesday awoke to a light haze in the sky and a faint scent of burning due to smoke carried on the wind from a wildfire in Portugal, local authorities said.

Madrid emergency services said the smoke had drifted some 350 kilometers from a blaze in Lejeosa da Raia, located on the Portuguese side of the border.

The organization said it had received a number of calls from concerned citizens throughout the morning and added that there were no active fires in the Madrid region. EFE
