Spain lifts face mask rule outdoors

Madrid, Jun 26 (EFE).- The obligation to use face masks outdoors was lifted in Spain Saturday, although pedestrians are still required to carry one with them at all times.

No major incidents have occurred as a result of the new state of affairs, which prompted some people to quickly unveil their faces as soon as midnight gave way to June 26, while others continue to wear the face masks outdoors.

Face masks continue to be compulsory in crowded open spaces, when maintaining a distance of 1.5 meters between individuals of different housholds is not possible.

Wearing a face mask is still obligatory in public transport, including within passenger stations and platforms.

“Don’t be mistaken, the face mask is not gone, it is still with us, only its use is now more flexible,” said Madrid Vice-counselor for Public Health Antonio Zapatero, demanding responsibility and “maximum caution” to citizens of the Spanish capital. EFE
