Trump slams ‘ridiculous’ charges against him at Pennsylvania rally
Washington DC, Jul 29 (EFE).- The former president of the United States, Donald Trump, (2017-2021) described the judicial charges against him as ridiculous during a rally on Saturday in the state of Pennsylvania, considered crucial for the 2024 elections.
The rally came after special counsel for the Department of Justice, Jack Smith, on Thursday announced three new charges against him in the mishandling of classified documents, for which he was charged last month in Florida.
Trump called the allegations “ridiculous” and claimed they amounted to “election interference at the highest level.”
Moreover, Trump again claimed without evidence that the multiple judicial charges against him were politically motivated.
“They waited to bring them (the charges) in the middle of my campaign for President because that way they could Interfere and disturb my run for the White House,” said the former president, who remains a favorite to secure the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election.
If elected, he promised reprisals against Biden and his son, Hunter, including designating a special prosecutor to investigate the latter.
Hunter is accused in a Delaware court of two tax related crimes and another connected to the possession of a firearm while using drugs.
The investigation against Biden’s son was opened in 2018 during Trump’s term and the Republican has constantly used it to attack the current president and cast doubt on his son’s businesses abroad, especially his work with a Chinese investment firm and a Ukrainian natural gas company.
In the Florida case, Trump has pleaded not guilty and argued that he did nothing wrong when he took boxes full of classified documents to his Florida mansion after leaving the White House in January 2021.
In New York, in April, a grand jury indicted Trump for falsifying commercial documents in a case that includes porn actress Stormy Daniels, with whom the former president had an “affair” in 2006.
Trump is the first former president in US history to be criminally indicted.
Meanwhile, in Washington DC, a grand jury has been debating for weeks whether to charge the former president in a case related to the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol, during which Trump supporters tried to disrupt the legislative process to formalize Biden’s victory in the 2020 election.
