Trump widens his lead over Republicans to 47 points and ties with Biden for 2024

Washington, Sep 20 (EFE).- Former President Donald Trump, besieged by four prosecutions, has widened his lead over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to 47 percentage points in the race for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, according to an Emerson College Polling survey released Wednesday.

The poll further found that Trump and President Joe Biden each have the backing of 45% of voters, a result similar to the YouGov/Yahoo News poll released today, giving each of them 44% of support.

The Emerson College Polling survey was conducted Sept. 17-18 among 1,125 registered voters and found that 59% of Republican voters favor Trump (2017-2021), up nine points from last month’s poll.

DeSantis, the closest of Trump’s rivals, appears with 12% of respondents backing him, unchanged from last month, and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy lost two points to 7% of support.

A CNN television poll in early September showed Trump with more than a 30-point lead over DeSantis among Republican voters.

“The Trump voter remains resilient. Despite a drop in August after the first Republican debate, which Trump did not attend, his lead has grown. He has improved his standing from before the debate,” said Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling.

This poll indicates that the most crucial issue for 40% of likely voters is the economic situation. In comparison, 13% say their most significant concern is the threats to democracy, 12% are concerned about the cost of health care, and 10% by immigration. EFE
