Trump’s fate will be same as Saddam’s, says Iran president
Tehran, Dec 23 (EFE).- Iranian President Hasan Rohaní said Wednesday that outgoing US President Donald Trump faces the same fate as the late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
He said as Tehran defeated Saddam Hussein after the eight years of the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s, it might as well emerge victorious after economic hostilities started by Trump.
“We have had two lunatics in history, one was Saddam who imposed a military war on us and the other is Trump who imposed the economic war on us,” Rouhani said during a cabinet meeting, according to the presidency website.
Rohaní said that Trump had failed in his confrontation against Iran, as did Saddam Hussein in his military aggression.
He said Iran stood united in defeating the Iraqi dictator and waited for the “lunatic to be hanged.”
“Trump’s destiny will be no better than Saddam’s,” he said.
Trump pulled out of the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the six world powers in 2018 and imposed re-harsh sanctions against Tehran.
Iran is battling a severe economic crisis due to the sanctions.
The development of the Covid-19 vaccine has become a challenge for the Iranian authorities.
The pandemic has killed more than 54,000 people and infected one million in Iran, making it the most-hit country in the Middle East.
On Wednesday, Iran recorded 153 new coronavirus deaths and more than 6,200 new cases.
Rohaní promised that everyone in the country would have access to the Covid-19 vaccine.
He said the government agencies were coordinating and “putting all their efforts together” to have the vaccine.
The vaccine developed in Iran has entered the human testing phase. Its mass production is expected to begin at the end of June 2021. EFE
