Two arrested after tearing hole through China’s Great Wall

Beijing, Sep 5 (EFE).- Chinese authorities have arrested two construction workers after tearing a hole through the Great Wall to pave the way for heavy machinery, state media reported on Tuesday.

The suspects, identified by their surnames as Zheng and Wang, are used an excavator to blast a large hole through one of the sections of the wall in the central province of Shanxi, according to China’s. CCTV state broadcaster.

The incident happened on August 24 in the 32nd Great Wall.

Police were alerted to the damage at the heritage site and, after an investigation, found evidence that the wall had been destroyed by a heavy machine.

Officers located the two suspects in a neighboring town and took them to the police station for questioning where they confessed to having damaged the structure to avoid a detour.

The 32nd Great Wall in Youyu county is a section of the Great Wall built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) named after its status as the 32nd guard post.EFE
