Ali Daei congratulates Ronaldo for equalling international goals record

Tehran, Jun 24 (EFE).- Former Iran forward Ali Daei on Thursday congratulated Cristiano Ronaldo for equalling his record of most international goals.

Captain Ronaldo scored his 109th goal for Portugal against France in the final round of fixtures of Group F in the European Championships on Wednesday evening.

“Congratulations to Cristiano who is now one goal away from breaking the men’s international goal scoring record,” Daei, now 52, wrote on his Instagram.

“I am honoured that this remarkable achievement will belong to Ronaldo — great champion of football and caring humanist who inspires and impacts lives throughout the world.”

Ronaldo responded: “True champions remain champions forever. I’m very proud to read such kind words from a huge idol like you.”

The Portugal forward scored two penalties against France to secure Portugal’s spot in the last-16 of the Euros.

Ronaldo is also the all-time top-scorer in the European Championships with 14. He played his first European tournament in 2004.EFE
