Ukraine claims having destroyed 2 Russian vessels in Black Sea

Kyiv, May 2 (EFE).- Two Russian patrol boats sailing the Black Sea have been destroyed by firing carried out by two Ukrainian unmanned aircraft, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi announced on Telegram Monday.

According to the Ukrainian official news agency Ukrinform, which quoted Zaluzhnyi, “two Russian Raptor-class boats were destroyed near Zmiinyi (Snake) Island in the early hours today.”

“Bayraktar is operating,” Zaluzhnyi wrote in reference to a Turkish medium-altitude, long-distance unmanned aerial combat vehicle capable of autonomous or remotely controlled flight operations.

According to Ukraine, Russian ships had earlier attempted to conduct reconnaissance missions at the Danube Delta.

Under the cover of darkness, the Russian Raptor assault boats attempted to carry out reconnaissance at the Danube Delta, according to the statement.

Sensing danger, the boats retreated towards Zmiinyi Island, but were struck by Ukrainian Bayraktars, it added.

Zaluzhnyi’s statement was accompanied by footage, apparently taken with drones, showing projectiles seen destroying the supposed Russian vessels. EFE
