Ukraine says drones hit Russian ship near Black Sea port

Kyiv, Aug 4 (EFE).- A Russian navy ship in the Black Sea was struck overnight in a maritime drone attack, Ukrainian officials said Friday.

According to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, the State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) confirmed that the Olenegorsk Gornyak large landing ship had sustained “serious” damage.

Russian defense officials acknowledged that there had been an attack involving two drones, but claimed that it had been repelled.

According to the Defense Ministry, the drones were detected and destroyed by ships guarding the base before they could reach their targets.

But the SBU denied those claims, insisting that the ship has a “serious hole and is currently unable to perform its combat missions,” adding that “all the statements of the Russians about the ‘repulsed attack’ are fake.”

The ship was docked near the port of Novorossiysk, a major naval base for the Russian Black Sea Fleet and a significant hub for Russian exports. EFE
