Ukraine says it has destroyed 48 Russian artillery systems in past 24 hours

Lviv, Ukraine, Oct 2 (EFE).- The Ukrainian military on Monday claimed it has destroyed a record number of 48 Russian artillery systems within the last 24 hours as part of the ongoing counter offensive against invading forces.
This brings the overall tally of Russian artillery systems destroyed since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022 to 6,525, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
The figure reflects Ukraine’s intensified efforts to diminish Russia’s firepower since Kyiv launched its counter-offensives in early June.
Last month, the Ukrainian military destroyed nearly 947 artillery pieces of the Russian forces, marking the highest number during the 19 months of the conflict, the military added.
According to the report, one-third of the artillery systems destroyed within the last 24 hours were targeted by explosive drones operated by the Ukrainian army units.
Ukraine has increasingly employed various types of modified unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to neutralize Russian military equipment during their counter-offensives against Moscow’s forces.
Over the past week, the Ukrainian military’s “Drone Army” destroyed a record number of 220 Russian military assets, including 86 artillery systems, 33 tanks and 41 trucks, Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, said on X, formerly twitter.
“Last week was a real catastrophe for Russian artillery. Drone pilots continue to rock and are setting new records,” he said.
“More damaged artillery means fewer shells at our military positions and front-line cities,” he added. EFE
