Ukraine to receive up to 140 tanks in ‘first wave’ of shipments

Lviv, Ukraine, Jan 31 (EFE).- Ukraine will receive between 120 and 140 tanks in the “first wave” of deliveries by its Western allies, foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Tuesday.

So far, 12 countries have agreed to supply Ukraine with battle tanks, according to Kuleba.

Germany confirmed a week ago it will send 14 Leopard 2 to Kyiv, after which Poland submitted a request to provide another 14 of the German-made tanks. Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Finland, and Norway then followed suit.

The United States also announced it will supply 41 Abrams tanks, while the United Kingdom is set to send 14 Challenger 2 battle tanks.

France, meanwhile, said it does not “rule out supplying French-made Leclerc.”EFE
