Tens of thousands gather in Tel Aviv for gay pride

Tel Aviv, Israel, Jun 10 (EFE).- Tens of thousands of people participated on Friday in Tel Aviv’s Gay Pride Parade as Israel reopened its borders to tourists after two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Giant rainbow flags, people dressed as drag queens and music filled the streets of the 23rd edition of the parade in the seaside city.

“Tel Aviv-Yafo is pleased to announce the return of its iconic Pride Parade,” the municipality said on its website, calling the march “the largest event of its kind in the Middle East.”

People from all over the region come to Tel Aviv for the emblematic annual event, which last year gathered up to 250,000 people.

“Freedom, freedom of choice and, of course, freedom of choice in love – we will not give them up under any circumstances,” Israel’s transportation minister, Merav Michaeli, said on the main stage at the opening of the parade.

“Equality does not mean that we should all be the same. Equality means that we can be who we are,” the Labor Party leader added. EFE
