Star Wars embraces anime with ‘Star Wars: Visions’

Los Angeles, USA, Oct 2 (EFE).- Star Wars is embracing the mystery and magic of anime in “Star Wars: Visions,” an ambitious animated series on Disney+ that combines the stories of the galactic saga with the essence and unique style of Japanese animation.

“It’s exciting to see all these legendary anime studios take on such an iconic franchise a as ‘Star Wars,'” actor Henry Golding, known in Hollywood for “Crazy Rich Asians” (2019) and who here lends his voice to the English dubbing, told Efe.

Golding (Betong, Malaysia, 1987) also stressed that not only were those studios allowed to “have their own spin” on Star Wars but they were also guaranteed total freedom to go beyond the canon of the huge saga devised by George Lucas.

Available on Disney+ from September 22, “Star Wars: Visions” comprises nine independent short films designed by seven different studios.

Kamikaze Douga, Geno Studio, Studio Colorido, TRIGGER, Kinema Citrus, Science SARU and Production I.G. are the anime companies that have delved into the “Star Wars” universe.

“Akakiri,” the latest short in the series, is the one that features the voice of Golding, who was absolutely delighted and ready to dive into “Star Wars.”

“When they mentioned this I was 100 percent. I mean, who’s stupid enough to say, ‘Oh, let me read the script first…,'” he joked.

“Akakiri” tells the story of a seasoned jedi, Tsubaki, who faces a very dangerous mission to protect his beloved Misa.

Golding reflected on the tragic and somber tone that permeates every frame of “Akakiri.”
