One Person Dead, Two Others Injured After Crash at I-40, Covington Pike

MEMPHIS, TN (WREG) — One person was killed and two others injured after an overnight crash in northeast Memphis.
It happened in the area of I-40 and Covington Pike around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
According to police, one driver ran the light and hit another vehicle, killing a passenger inside that second vehicle. The suspect tried to flee the scene, but was detained.
Both drivers sustained injuries in the crash, but are expected to be okay.
Police were forced to block the road for several hours as crews worked to clean up the debris.
Hesler Munguia, 20, was charged with vehicular homicide – intoxication, vehicular assault, reckless driving, public intoxication, driving without a license, leaving the scene of a deadly accident, DUI, disregarding a red light, violation of financial law and failure to exercise due care.
Police confirmed Munguia was charged in connection with the I-40 wreck.

El accidente automovilístico sucedió en el área de la autopista I-40 y Covington Pike alrededor de las 10:30 p.m. del jueves.
Según la policía, un conductor se pasó la luz de alto y chocó con otro vehículo, matando a un pasajero del segundo vehículo. El sospechoso intentó huir de la escena, pero fue detenido.
Ambos conductores sufrieron heridas en el choque, pero se espera que mejoren.
La policía se vio obligada a bloquear la carretera durante varias horas mientras los equipos trabajaban para limpiar los restos del accidente.
Hesler Munguia, de 20 años, fue acusado de homicidio vehicular: intoxicación, asalto vehicular, conducción imprudente, intoxicación pública, conducir sin licencia, salir de la escena de un accidente mortal, DUI, ignorar una luz roja, violación de la ley financiera y falta de ejercicio cuidado necesario.
La policía confirmó que Munguia fue acusado en relación con el accidente.
